Solving The Problem
With an issue such as the lack of space in the libraries at
the University of Florida, I feel as though the only ways to really go about
solving this problem is by their expanding our current library, or by
constructing an entirely new one.
Personally,
I feel as though building a new library would be the best option for University
Students. This is because the construction of a new building would not get in
the way of the students ability to use the current study locations, and I feel
like adding onto the current buildings would. If we begin adding to the current
library, it is likely that there would be times when the library would be inaccessible
due to the work going on. Additionally, I feel as though there is only so much
you can improve when trying to add onto a building, and there is more room for
possibilities when you are creating an entirely new building.
I also
feel as though a new building would provide many opportunities for Professors
and Students alike around campus. Not only would a new building provide more study
space for individuals, but it would be a new attraction to be sold to incoming
freshman that are touring/checking out our University.
The
bottom line is, as a Top 7 University, we
should be providing students with the absolute best conditions to study and
work in. Likewise, we should be selling ourselves as the University that never
stops growing and improving. It is apparent that there is a demand for more
space all around the campus, and I feel as though building new locations that
would be frequently used by the students would be an excellent solution.
Nicole,
ReplyDeleteGreat job recognizing that there is very limited space in Library West during midterms and finals, that is a very original idea. I agree that Library West is limited, however I am unsure about my stance on expanding the library versus building a new one. I say so because we already have the Education Library, Smathers Library, and Marston. I agree with your points about the library being closed for periods, but if there was a way to work around that then expanding Library West would probably be equally as beneficial.
Nikki, earlier this semester I also wrote about a problem I had with our current library system. I agree that more space in certain, central libraries would undoubtedly be beneficial to all students. There aren't many more annoying things than when you pull up to library west and there isn't a seat in sight. I also believe that it's important that a school that is rising in the ranks as fast as we are should out an emphasis on internal growth as you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteHey Nicole,
ReplyDeleteI don't know much about University politics or their financial status but it would be great to see a new library building built considering how many students UF has and how packed campus is during the regular 9-5 times on weekdays. You are right about us being a top 7 university and deserving the best conditions possible. I believe an expansion on one might be easier but I like the idea altogether. Great post!
Hi Nicole, this is a great solution to the problem. A new library would hopefully distribute the space students have. It would also be cool to have some sort of monitoring system to see which library is the most empty at that current time. The gyms at UF have this to see how crowded they are and help you make a decision on where to go.
ReplyDeleteHi Nikki,
ReplyDeleteThe concept of building an entirely new library at UF is actually really intriguing, because I feel like it could have many positive effects on students and faculty alike. In a way, it would build more morale and encourage students to go out and study in libraries more. It would also be really cool to watch the construction process over the next few years, since I plan on staying at UF for several more years. Great idea!
